The Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas, when asked what compelled him to read and write poetry, said "because I had fallen in love with words." I too have had that same love affair with words throughout my life as a teacher, a poet, and as a reader. It is my hope that this blog be a continuing conversation about poetry and writing.

The Bet
The Bet
Christopher Bogart
How can you bargain with One
Who holds all the chips?
I’ve looked under my cards,
Under my chair,
Under the table.
I’ve even turned my pockets
Inside out
In search of just one
Chip to bargain with,
And, I’ll be damned,
Literally,
If I can find one.
It seems to me
That the game is just a little
Lopsided
If you can’t get up
The bet.
